Why most FIRE calculators are wrong
A 4%-rule spreadsheet gives you one number. The future is a distribution, not a point. We model the whole distribution.
Real Monte Carlo, not static math
10,000-path simulation with sequence-of-returns risk modeling. Static 4%-rule calculators miss this entirely.
Dynamic withdrawal guardrails
Guyton-Klinger spending adjustments improve success rate by ~10 percentage points over static withdrawals.
Currency-aware for expats
Earn in AED, invest in USD ETFs, retire in INR? We model multi-currency portfolios honestly.
Updates as you save

FIRE calculator FAQ
What is FIRE?
FIRE stands for Financial Independence, Retire Early. It means having enough invested assets that the safe withdrawal from your portfolio covers your annual expenses, so you no longer need active income to sustain your lifestyle.
How is the FIRE number calculated?
The classic FIRE number is 25 times your annual expenses, derived from the 4% safe withdrawal rate. If you spend $40,000 a year, your FIRE number is $1,000,000. Modern adjustments (dynamic withdrawal guardrails, sequence-of-returns risk) refine this.
What savings rate do I need?
Mr. Money Mustache showed that savings rate, not income, is the dominant variable. A 50% savings rate gets you to FIRE in ~17 years. 25% takes 32 years. 75% takes 7. Increasing your savings rate is the single highest-leverage action you can take.
Is the 4% rule still valid in 2026?
For a 30-year retirement on a US-domiciled portfolio, historical data still supports a ~95% success rate at 4%. For longer horizons (40+ years) or international portfolios with different drawdown profiles, 3.5% is more conservative.
How does k25x improve on a static calculator?
We run a Monte Carlo simulation with 10,000 paths against your real portfolio and apply Guyton-Klinger dynamic guardrails. The result is a probability distribution of outcomes, not just a single point estimate. We also model your actual asset allocation, currency exposure, and sequence-of-returns risk.
Do I need to sign up to use the calculator?
